Airfield Chalets

On prime airside locations these comfortable motel style cabins are fully equipped and partially serviced and are ideal accommodation for 1 or 2 single people or a couple.

Each chalet is privately owned by a glider pilot - a requirement of ownership. They are peaceful places with great views and have room to park your glider out front.

All are built to similar specifications with:

a generous living/kitchen area
bedroom with a double bed
a bathroom with shower and laundry facilities
the living room may have an extra bed or a roll out sofa bed so an extra single person can be accommodated.
outdoor patio.

Please note that accommodation at the Airfield Chalets is included in Private and Group courses costs at NZ$100 per night. This may be up-graded to the Ahuriri Motels for an additional NZ$10 per night or the Countrytime Resort Hotel for an additionl NZ$20 per night.

GlideOmarama Airfield Chalet

Camping Ground

Located at the centre of the flying action, the public Airfield Camping Ground is operated for glider pilots by the Omarama Soaring Centre. It offers tent sites and caravans for rent and includes an excellent kitchen/amenities block with showers, toilets and laundry facilities. Costs for the 2008/9 season are set at $14 per person per night plus $20 per rented caravan per night. 1 privately owned 25 ft luxury caravan is available @ $50/night. If you bring your own tent or campervan, your costs are limited to the per person charge.

Ahuriri Motel

Located 800 metres walk across a field behind the airfield, the Ahuriri Motel is hosted by gliding enthusiasts Tom & Rose Sheilds. They have 12 fully serviced units and two studios. They also have a campground and arrangements for families, BBQ facilities and can provide continental breakfasts. Rates from NZ$105 per night.

Countrytime Hotel

The Countrytime is a 50 room hotel situated on the airfield two minutes walk from the Terminal.

The rooms are fully serviced with shower/bath, TV, tea and coffee making facilities, telephone and Internet access. Access to a communal kitchen is possible by prior arrangement. Sky TV is available in the lounge area and you can relax in the bar, either inside or out, with great views of the airfield and the surrounding mountains.

The rate for glider pilots is NZ$100 night.

Sierra Motels

The Sierra Motels is walking distance from the airfield and has long been a favourite with glider pilots. It is roomy, clean and comfortable with friendly hosts.

Rates are $110 per night per unit from November - April with discounts to long staying glider pilots. There is also a self-contained flat with kitchenette, sleeps two, only $70 per night.
